Welcome to day one of our Compost Appreciation Week series. Each day we will share fun facts about composting, its importance and how we can all engage in the process to improve our homes, communities and planet. Today we will start by explaining what composting is and how the process is used at our facility. Composting is the recycling of organic matter into natural fertilizer that enhances plants and soil. In fact, it is often referred to by farmers as "black gold" because of the quality it brings to their crops. Once soil is enriched by compost for example, it becomes a home for helpful insects and earthworms to burrow in and allow for more aeration. Aeration occurs when small holes appear in the soil that provide more air and water for plant nourishment. As a result, this process can create stronger and healthier roots for the to flourish from.
So how does composting work at our facility? Organic materials such as grass, weeds and leaves are brought to our facility by customers then recycled, mixed with a row turning machine and resold into products such as our homemade compost and 50/50 topsoil compost blend. Check back tomorrow to see how purchasing our compost or 50/50 blend can fulfill your gardening and lawn care/landscaping needs!
